Total rebuilt in 6 months!
Family house with lots of space!
Owners monitoring built from 1300 km away.
This project was unique challenge from a construction and restoration aspect as the original structure was under full heritage protection and we needed to work within the parameters set by Heritage Office consent documentation. the consent documents precribed keeping the extrernal characteristics and design of the property in tact as far as possible. Internal space design and infrastructure were completely implemented as new. Owners opted for all heating to be on Electric and ‘Glamox’ heating system was installed plus Electric mesh under-floor heating to all floors.
Hand-made solid spruce windows and shutters and external doors were commissioned and internal doors were hand-crafted ledge and brace farm house style doors.
End product was a well balanced, traditional restoration of external architectural features, whilst internal space arrangement and finish was more contemporary although still traditional but fully functional with all modern facilities and conveniences, even high speed internet!
When we bought this property in Jereka in 2007 the house was in a very bad condition and deteriorated further since. As the house was considered a monument some years later by the authorities we were only allowed to rebuild it externally in as it was. We took the challenge and we found Alf Moolman prepared to rebuild this ruin for us. He and his team did so remarkably well and in just 6 months’ time but modified the internal lay-out completely as to our demands. As we live at 1300 km away we could not be physically present during this building phase. That did not prove to be a problem as Alf is an excellent communicator and understood our wishes and demands right from the start. We are quite happy with the final result and we and our children and friends hope to spend a lot of time in Jereka!
